Williams College Thesis Format

Formatting for double sided printing

  1. In Microsoft Word (Word 2000), go to the File Menu and click on Page Setup.
  2. In the lower part of the window that opens, there is a checkbox that says Mirror margins. Check it. (On some versions of Word this is in a dropdown menu.)
  3. Set the Gutter box to 1.5" and set the Inside box to 0.
  4. Set other boxes to 1".
  5. In the dropdown box in the lower right-hand corner, make sure it is set to Whole document.
  6. Click OK.

The Page Setup window should look something like this:

Now the margins will alternate with the inside margin always being 1.5" and the outside margin always being 1".
