About the donation of the Collection
The Whiteman Collection was donated to Williams College by Paul Whiteman during the 1930s and 1940s. With no previous personal connection to the College, Whiteman selected this small undergraduate institution to be the permanent home of his collection because he was very interested in the education of young people and several of his staff had, in particular, a high opinion of Williams.
Using the Collection
THIS COLLECTION IS UNAVAILABLE DUE TO THE RENOVATION OF OUR BUILDING.
The Whiteman Collection is open by appointment only, Monday through Friday (excluding major holidays), 10 am to 12 noon and 1 to 4:30 pm. Due to use constraints, we cannot ordinarily book researchers for more than two consecutive days in the Collection. Researchers are also urged to contact the Archives for appointments well in advance of their planned visit.
Card catalogs and other indexes provide access to the phonograph collection and manuscript charts. Although the Archives is planning to automate access to this cataloging data, such information does not yet exist online.
