Provenance: The George T. Washburn Papers are a reorganization of a box of correspondence and miscellaneous manuscripts received from an unknown source. In December 1991, additional missionary correspondence and family papers were located and incorporated into the collection. This guide was updated at that time.

Conservation: The letters, which had been folded and stored in large acidic envelopes, were unfolded and organized. A few torn letters were encapsulated in mylar. Fragile and deteriorating newspaper clippings were photocopied onto acid free paper.
