Scope and Content NoteThe bulk of the Irving Van Zandt Jr. Papers comprises Van Zandt's memoirs of his activities in World War II. Stationed in Europe, Van Zandt was the Aide de Camp for General Penoral Kingman, the individual in charge of training the French Army, among others, to use American equipment. The collection also contains numerous medals and decorations from this time period, including Van Zandt's Bronze Star and the Croix de Guerre. Van Zandt also preserved correspondence relating to these honors and certificates of recognition given to him by the U. S. Army. In addition, the Papers include certificates and a diploma from Van Zandt's time at Williams College.
