Series Descriptions

Series IV. Consulting, boards, etc. (1952-1994) consists of correspondence, notes, and reports relating to the various organizations Sawyer advised in both official and unofficial roles. This series is divided into three subseries: Consulting, boards, etc., Correspondence, and Professional trips.

Subseries A. Consulting, boards, etc. consists of correspondence, notes and reports regarding institutions or organizations to which Sawyer contributed significantly as an advisor, consultant, or board member. These associations include the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the Clark Art Institute, and the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. Subject folders are organized alphabetically.

Subseries B. Correspondence is made up of miscellaneous correspondence in which Sawyer gives both professional and personal advice and shares intellectual thoughts and ideas as an experienced leader in the fields of higher education and foundations.

Subseries C. Professional trips includes reports, notes, publications, and a scrapbook relating to Sawyer's Time trip to Russia and Europe, his trip to Thailand, his Hewlett Foundation trip to Alaska, and his trip to NATO headquarters and Germany.
