Scope and Content

The John E. Sawyer Papers, 1924-1995, consist of writings, correspondence, notes, speeches, reports, and documents relating to the personal and professional life of John Sawyer as a leader in higher education. Spanning most of his life from his grade school days to his death, the papers include his work as a student, a professor, a college president, and a foundation president as well as his role as an advisor to many organizations and friends. These papers, which Sawyer held privately at his home during his lifetime, serve as an interesting supplement to his official presidential papers.
