Series Description

Series IV, Artifacts consists of plaques, commemorative plates, and awards. Of these, most are gifts to RBM from champion teams. A notable exception is an adult swimming competition award won by Felix "Buster" Grossman (Williams Class of 1956) given to RBM as a tribute to the mentoring relationship with his former coach. Also included in this series is a framed photograph and letter from President John F. Kennedy, who swam on RBM's Harvard Freshmen Team, congratulating him on his distinguished career. In addition, this series includes a clock given to RBM on the occasion of the 1995 Olympic Coaches Reunion Dinner, and two plaques from the College Swimming Coaches Association of America commending RBM on his retirement from coaching in 1961. In 1989, Muir received a plaque of recognition as a Pioneer Coach from the International Swimming Hall of Fame in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
