Series Description

Series II, Photographs is a sizeable portion of the collection, and is organized into Personal images; Non-Williams coaching; Williams Swimming and Diving Teams; Williams College; and Miscellaneous people, places and events, and groups. The series begins by documenting RBM's family, childhood, and friends, and includes photographs of his personal swimming career. The Non-Williams coaching category reflects RBM's coaching experiences at Harvard and MIT before he came to Williams in 1936. The bulk of the photographs cover Williams swimming from the 1940s to the 1960s during RBM's tenure as Head Coach. This sub-series also includes an image of the soccer team--at one point, RBM also coached this team--as well as photographs of the diving team, the Muir Pool dedication ceremony in 1966, and general shots of the Williams campus. Miscellaneous photographs contain images taken in Fort Lauderdale, Florida documenting RBM's induction into the International Swimming Hall of Fame in 1989, and photographs reflecting his involvement with the Lawrence Beach Club (see the People folder). Unidentified photos are arranged into the categories people, events and places, groups, and miscellaneous.
