Scope and Content Note
The John S. Van E. Kohn Papers, 1924-1973 primarily comprise correspondence, and college papers from Kohn's education at Williams College and Harvard University. Also included are papers of Jack Gaylord Case (W.C. 1928), a friend of Kohn. The collection is divided into three series: Correspondence, College Papers, and Personal and Miscellaneous Papers.
Series I, Correspondence, 1924-1968, contains letters which Kohn received from classmates Jack Case, Theodore M. Shipherd (both W.C. 1928) and others, as well as Kohn's letters home during his first fall at Williams.
Series II, College Papers, 1925-1973, include notebooks, papers and exams from Kohn's time at Williams and Harvard. These materials are arranged alphabetically by course. 'Williams miscellaneous material' includes some papers regarding Class of 1928 reunions.
Series III, Personal and Miscellaneous Papers, 1924-1966, contains Kohn's personal notebooks, Jack Case papers and miscellaneous papers. The notebooks include Kohn's diary entries, poetry, notes and drafts of correspondence. Case papers contain correspondence between Case and Lucien Hilmer (W.C. 1928) as well as some of Case's writings.
