Series Description

Series I, Center for Environmental Studies (CES), 1965-88, contains a variety of papers concerning the preliminary plans for the Center, its first years of operation and grant applications, and business concerning the Center, including papers on the search for a new director which ended in Jorling's hiring. Jorling was preceded as Director by Andy Scheffey, Carl Reidel, and interim director Toby Clark, and there are a fair number of Center founding materials, including proposals for the undergraduate program in Environmental Studies. After Jorling's arrival at the Center in 1972, the collection contains more Center-related correspondence and materials throughout his tenure that further detail the operations and plans of CES.
