MSS #: MC 88
Collection processed and guide composed by: Annabel L. Kim, August 2005
Volume: 13.25 linear ft. (3 record center boxes, 15 manuscript boxes, 4 half manuscript boxes, 1 quarter manuscript box)
Provenance: According to directions given by Lane Faison, his son, George, packed the papers from the file cabinet in the Faison home in July 2005. While reviewing additional files, further papers were discovered and added to the donation.
Later that year, Prof. S. Lane Faison donated additional correspondence that had been in his personal possession in his apartment (see box 19).
In 2007 the tapes and unpublished transcript of Prof. Faison's interview for the Getty/UCLA Art History documentation project, originally accession # 1993-065, was added to the Faison Papers. The official transcript, cataloged separately, is also part of the Archives' collections.
Restrictions: None for the bulk of the collection. Unpublished documentation of Prof. Faison's 1992 interview for the Getty/UCLA may be used for research purposes only.
Conservation: The papers have been rehoused in acid-free cartons, boxes, and folders. Rusted staples and paperclips have been removed and replaced with plastic clips or stainless steel paperclips. Annotations made on the original folders have been transferred to their new folders. Brittle and deteriorating papers and newspaper clippings have been photocopied onto acid-free paper. More fragile materials such as a leather-bound photo album and watercolor paintings have been boxed in acid-free boxes.
Copyright: Request for permission to publish material from the collection must be submitted in writing to the College Archivist. Request for permission to publish from the Getty/UCLA interview must be referred to the University Librarian of the University of California, Los Angeles.
