Scope and Content Note

The John Edwin Bakeless Papers, 1914-1920 are comprised primarily of the correspondence of John E. Bakeless to his wife Katherine Little prior to their marriage. The collection also contains some other correspondence to Katherine Bakeless, as well as a few other miscellaneous materials. The correspondence is primarily concerned with John Edwin Bakeless' life at Williams, training Camps Devans and Lee, and Harvard University. After John became engaged to Katherine Little (Summer, 1919), his letters consist primarily of declarations of his love for her and what life will be like when they are married. The miscellaneous materials consist of two Williams Greek exams dated February 1914 and 1915 and a photocopy of Katherine Little Bakeless' entry in the Obiter, a publication of the Bloomsburg State Normal School Class of 1918. The collection is organized chronologically by date with undated materials located at the end.
