Scope and Content Note

The College Marshal Records comprise materials used in the planning of commencements and convocations from 1961 to 1990, and the inductions of presidents Sawyer, Chandler and Oakley. (There are no files for 1963, commencement 1965, convocation 1973, convocation 1976, commencement 1978, and convocation 1985.) These records document the work of College Marshals Freeman Foote, Frederick Rudolph and Robert F. Dalzell, Jr.

Files contain correspondence with honorary degree recipients, instructions, seating details, budgets, information regarding marching order, program design, costumes, music, meals, security, rain plans, marshals, speakers, ushers, and photography. The records reflect such changes to the ceremonies as commencement being moved from Stetson lawn to the West College lawn, and the design and purchase of the canopy that shades the stage.
