Scope and Content Note

The College Librarian Records, 1793-1998, contain the borrowing records, accession records, correspondence, expenditures, plans, Library Committee Meeting minutes, and business-related papers of the College's librarians from the college's earliest days. The records also include materials related to the renovation of Stetson Hall and the construction and renovation of Sawyer Library.

The collection is comprised of five series. Series I. includes the Library Committee Meeting Minutes and Library Council Proceedings from 1922 to 1992.

Series II. Order and Accession Records, contains the volumes of handwritten records from 1911 to 1937 as well as an additional volume from 1793.

Series III. Expenditures and Borrowers, contains records of library expenses, 1910-1922, and handwritten borrower records from 1868 to 1922.

Series IV. Renovation and Construction Files contains materials related to the renovation of Stetson Hall and the construction and renovation of Sawyer Library. This series includes sketches and blueprints of Sawyer and Stetson, pamphlets on desks and chairs, and information on equipment for the new library.

Series V. Subject Files contains the subject files from the college librarians and is arranged alphabetically. Most of the material is from college librarians Lawrence Wikander and Phyllis Cutler between the years 1970 and 1998, though there is material from the earlier days of the college library. Included in these Subject Files are correspondence, budgets, book inventories, gifts, Librarian's Reports, and library statistics. The correspondence relates to inquiries, gifts, funds, or collections, and other business related to the library.
